A crowd of 4 000 people turned up for the launch of Port Elizabeth’s first artisanal food fair, The Valley Market, and it just keeps getting better. From artisanal chocolate and bread to exotic paella, craft beer and gourmet boerewors, they have it all. There is a charge of R10 a person at the door and all proceeds from the market go to fund the Love Story.
Let the kids loose in the children’s entertainment area at the Southey’s Vines Country Craft Market. There is a jumping castle, face painting, art station, sand art making as well as food stalls where parents can relax watch over a cup of coffee.
It is one of the oldest Cape martkets, it’s well supported and offers visitors genuine handicrafts and the very best quality. It is a summer market only, so best to check dates on their web site.
Markets are held in Swellendam on the last Saturday of every month! The stalls are set up under the Oaks next to Old Gaol. All the products are sourced locally offering artisan foods, bakes, preserves, organic vegetables, raw cheeses, handmade toys, plants and textiles. Everything you would expect to find at a small country town food market.
Our first Friday Market of this year is today! We feel so blessed by the many ”old” customers who have been looking us up at the Montessori School Friday Market and at our studio in Lake Brenton. Many bring their ”old” sand candles to refill. Thank you to all of you who have been instrumental in spreading the word that Renette’s Candles have been re-created. The candles begin with a thought, inspired by a vision, which is then followed by action – here is one of the vital actions! Our beach sand is protected, so it may only be collected from our roads.
That was the perfect end to a perfect evening.

“The Wicked Waffle” is as Belgian as they can get and made with a passion that Gino Adriaensen is well known for
The wicked Waffle will make the “classic waffles” like we now them in
Belgium and The Nederland’s. With only the best fresh quality products from
the surrounded farms, will we make this waffle and there filling only the
Belgium Chocolate and the Hail sugar I will need to go and resource this

I will also change the sweet and savoury fillings cording the season of the
Brocoli and cashew nuts served with Jasmine rice
The Thai Kitchen specialises in Thai home cooked food and offer a selection of dishes at the Friday Market. We use genuine Thai ingredients and whilst we try to tone things down a bit for local tastes, this is authentic Thai food. So when it says spicy or even medium it’s still damned hot for some. And if you are not sure ask if you can taste first. Alternatively if you are not that keen on chilli rather try Joy’s most popular dish which is chilli free, freshly cooked and delicious.
Chicken & Cashew Nuts
